Maahox is a villain from the Voltron Force franchise.
"I am Maahox, master of experimental occult sciences, and exile from Calum. These titles are related."

—Maahox, "Defenders of Arus"

Maahox is one of the main villains in Voltron Force. He is a mad scientist who creates most of the Robeasts Voltron faces and is responsible for ressurecting Lotor many times throughout the show. He is originally from Calum, though he is now exiled for reasons that remain unknown (although it's likely it's due to his generally unethical and immoral nature).

History[]

Maahox's first appearance in the show is when he and Commander Kala are attempting to harness energy from the Haggarium Quasar in order to bring Lotor back to life. After successfully doing it, he sends an old-model robeast (directly taken from Voltron: Defender of the Universe) to Arus in an attempt to bring Voltron back out into the public eye. After successfully completing this also, he shares his plan to create new robeasts with help from nature, combining dangerous creatures with a source of intelligence so that they can have the ability to strategise and reason. For his first new robeast, he betrays Kala by trapping her in chamber of Haggarium to harness her energy for his Spider Robeast. [1]

As a result Kala became the first intellgent Robeast: A giant Mecha-Spider which would later merge with Wade's robo-lion to become what Hunk terms a Lider. He continues to experiment with Haggarium in secret to make even more powerful and dangerous creatures. He also has a some what dark interest about Voltron, likely due to its power being unmatched by any other and its fairly mysterious origins. He also appears to know a great deal of Voltron's past, managing to recognise Vince as from an extinct race of people who helped create Voltron, and being aware that the Baltoans helped code Voltron, both things that the Force were unaware of.

Maahox has also shown that has he has interest in controlling the universe but no qualms about causing potentially massive destruction to it. This has been expressed multiple times, one instance being in Dark Blue when he orders Commander Cossack to self destruct a ship with a huge quantity of Haggarium, which would have resulted in the creation of a massive black hole.

In Flash Form Go! he sends out his eye to search through Arus for the location of the Lion's Dens. While his eye is defeated by Voltron thanks to Daniel's Voltcom upgrade which helps Voltron form faster and move faster, at the end of the episode it reveals that the Force's attempts to shake him off failed, as he now knows the location of the Lion's Dens.

Later, in Predator Robeast, Maahox creates one of his most daring inventions: The Predator Robeasts. These are five Robeasts that resembled mythical creatures, those being the Basillisk, the Minotaur, Megladon, a Dragon and some kind of mega lion resembling both resembling the lions themselves and Wade's own creations. Mahhox used the Predator Robeasts to forcefully keep the Lions in their Dens. When the lions inevitably fend the Robeasts off and escape (with the help of the cadets), Maahox gets the Robeasts to regroup and sends a purple beam into them, which sends them into their own transformation sequence. The now combined Predator Robeast quickly showed its power, managing to defeat Voltron again and again even when they changed formations. However, before it could truly destroy Voltron once and for all, the Predator Robeast was recalled by Lotor as he wanted to have the glory of defeating Voltron for himself. This action enraged Maahox.

Throughout the show it is implied that Maahox only revived Lotor as to further study the effects of Haggarium on a being and also to use his resources to create new Robeasts to destroy Voltron. While Maahox does generally suck up to Lotor, you can see him get annoyed by Lotor's actions in episodes such as Dark Blue. It appears Maahox has quite an extensive knowledge on Haggarium, using it for a variety of purposes, such as gathering information from the Baltoan's minds in Brains or him recognising when a Haggarium infection is too late to cure in Ghost in the Lion.

Later, as Lotor succumbed more and more to the power of Haggarium and became more and more frustrated with Maahox's failures, he fired Maahox. When the Lider Robeast returned to take revenge on Maahox but inevitably started fighting Lotor, eventually devouring him and turning into the Lotider Robeast, Maahox was gleeful at this prospect as not only was it powerful, but it had the greatest chance at defeating Voltron. When it fails, Maahox revives Lotor one last time so that he can watch him create his new Doom Robeast, much to Lotor's horror. Then, Maahox crushes Lotor, killing him for the last time in the series.

With his new Doom Robeast under his control and his former master permantly dead, Maahox attacks Earth to lure out the Voltron Force which is now being commanded by Daniel. However Daniel's inexperience combined with his Haggarium enduced rage made it easy for Maahox to outmatch the lions. During the battle Maahox noticed that Daniel had a Haggarium infection and began to exploit it, furthering the infection. However, Keith managed to reach Black and command Voltron to victory using the new Lion Head Attack. Maahox and his Doom Robeast are defeated, however it's never properly confirmed if Maahox actually died during this battle, or if he lived another day.

Trivia[]

  • Mahoox's original design was a lot more intimidating; however, the character designers toned it down so that he wouldn't overshadow Lotor.
  • Maahox only has four fingers, unlike most of the other main characters and villains, who have five.
